Mami and Sean’s December wedding day at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Palo Alto, CA and Fairview Crystal Springs Golf Course in Burlingame, CA was bursting full of joy and heartwarming sentiment. You can see in every photo how truly happy the couple was to be becoming husband and wife at last and how much genuine love and joy there was for the couple among the intimate group of family and friends that attended their wedding.
Mami, originally from Tokyo and growing up in San Jose, CA since she was nine years old, first met her now husband Sean, a San Jose native, in college. Even though they were both from San Jose, they actually met for the first time in San Luis Obispo, where they were both pursuing undergraduate degrees in kinesiology at Cal Polytechnic State University. They got to know each other while serving as teammates in a sports medicine jeopardy competition. They were such good teammates that they won first place in the competition! And then, by the time they went to the national competition in Minnesota, they knew they were soulmates! After graduating from Cal Poly, Mami and Sean’s love endured a long distance as they both pursued doctoral degrees in different states.
Thanks to Sean, Mami was able to have her dream engagement! Mami had been living in the United States by herself since she graduated high school because her parents, sister, and grandfather moved back to Japan. Sean knew how important it was to Mami to have her family be a part of her marriage, so he proposed to her in front of her family at the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden during a summer they were all visiting from Japan. And as if that wasn’t romantic enough, the engagement ring that Sean proposed with was Mami’s grandmother’s ring!
Mami and Sean chose to be married at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Palo Alto, CA, the church that they coincidentally both parked in front of during their first date to watch the Stanford Womens’ soccer team play. It also happened to be the same church that Sean’s parents were married in!
We started Mami and Sean’s wedding day photos with some elegant bridal portraits of Mami on the St. Thomas Aquinas Church staircase. Mami looked absolutely stunning in her classically elegant strapless and fitted lace wedding gown.
Mami’s wedding bouquet featured purple calla lillies and white roses. The wedding flowers were a dream come true for not only the couple, but also Mami’s mom. The florist, Miho, was Mami’s mom’s dear friend and she created the bouquets, corsages, hair pieces, boutonnieres, and welcome sign greenery for Mami and Sean’s wedding day. Mami recalled that “It was so special for my mom to be able to see her daughter walk down the aisle with a bouquet made specifically for me with love.” And she said that her flowers were better than anything she could have dreamed of and something that she will never forget.
After Mami’s bridal portraits, it was time for the church wedding ceremony to begin.
After the ceremony and a few photos outside of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, we headed over to the reception venue in Burlingame, CA. For their wedding reception venue, they chose Fairview Crystal Springs Golf Course. The venue had a place in both of their lives growing up because Mami’s parent’s used to golf there and Sean grew up hiking and biking around the Crystal Springs Reservoir. Not to mention, the Burlingame wedding venue offers a truly breathtaking backdrop for wedding portrait photos.
Our first stop upon arriving at Fairview Crystal Springs was the gorgeous ceremony site with the stunning views overlooking the reservoir and the adorable gazebo. Here we focused on Mami and Sean with some romantic couple portraits. Then we snuck in some quick bridal party photos before heading to the reception.
Mami and Sean’s wedding reception was held inside in the Crystal Ballroom of the Fairview Springs Golf Course. Mami and Sean’s grand entrance kicked off the fun festivities of the evening with Sean pretending to play Mami’s leg like an electric guitar. There were nothing but smiles captured in the celebration photos because Mami and Sean were surrounded by their closest friends and family who were so fully of joy for the couple becoming husband and wife. It was a wedding to remember, for sure!
